University Housing
Central Michigan University offers a variety of accommodations in
residence halls and on-campus apartments. Visit the
Residence Life
web site for more information.
Residence halls. Some students live in dormitory-style
housing called residence halls. Each of the halls is within a
10-minute walk from all classes. Two, three or four students live in
a suite with one or two or four bedrooms, a private bathroom and a study and
living room. Suites come with all furniture, but students must
supply their own sheets, blankets and pillows.
East Area. Beginning in the 2007/2008 academic year, three
buildings in the East Area of campus will remain open during holiday
breaks and the summer. Many international students may choose to
live there to take advantage of the twelve month contract. (All
other residence halls close during the three holiday breaks and the
summer.) Four students live in all East Area suites, in either
shared rooms or individual bedrooms, which offer the same features
as other residence hall suites. The new Fabiano and Celani Halls
offer air-conditioned individual rooms in four bedroom suites. The
three halls that will be available for twelve month contracts are:
Celani, Herrig and Saxe Halls.
Meals. No cooking facilities are available in the residence
hall suites. All meals are prepared for students and served
cafeteria style in a dining commons (Residential Restaurant).
Apartments. CMU offers furnished one- and two-bedroom
apartments on campus for single students. Family apartments are
available either furnished or unfurnished. Before you move into a
university apartment you must sign a contract and you will be
required to live in the apartment for the entire academic year.
International students and scholars who have not arranged for
on-campus housing before arriving in Mount Pleasant should expect to
live off campus for at least their first semester at CMU. Students
who live off campus may wish to purchase special meal plans that
allow them to eat in a university dining commons.
