» Undergraduate Bridge Program

The Bridge program at Central Michigan University is designed for international undergraduate students with low TOEFL or IELTS scores or no TOEFL/ IELTS scores. To be accepted into the Bridge program, you must meet all of the undergraduate admission requirements except English language proficiency. On the application form under the "Proof of English Language Proficiency," check "Other" and type in "Bridge program." To apply to the Bridge program complete an application at apply.cmich.edu

Students admitted to the Bridge program must take the English Language Institute (ELI) Placement Test before registering for academic classes. The score on the ELI Placement Test will determine which classes can be taken.

The English Language Institute at Central Michigan University offers courses in English as a second language to international students:

  • whose native language is not English.
  • who have scored below 550 on the TOEFL (213 on the computer-based TOEFL) or the equivalent on other English proficiency tests.
Students who are admitted to the English Language Institute are not necessarily admitted to academic programs at Central Michigan University. Prospective students also must apply for admission to the university.
